    Joy Rider!

    KIM RICHEY NEWSLETTER APRIL 2024

    Greetings from Nashville –

So, there’s this kid in my East Nashville neighborhood that likes to blast around on his mini-bike.  Nothing stops him – “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night”.  You can add Worldwide Pandemic to the list.  He should deliver mail, that kid.  My neighbor, the ridiculously talented Aaron Lee Tasjan and I wrote the kid his own theme song.  He definitely bought the joy when I needed it.  “Joy Rider” is the second single from my upcoming album “Every New Beginning”.  You can listen to it HERE.

I want to thank everyone that has pre-ordered “Every New Beginning” and for all the great feedback on the first single “Floating On The Surface”.  We are nearly sold out of the Limited Edition Orange LPs but, there are a few left.  Get in there if you want a special orange one.  If you are not an orange type person, you can also get the LP in Coke bottle green.  Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?  You can pre-order or pre-save “Every New Beginning” in LP or CD format ahead of the May release HERE.

Here’s where I’ll be.  Come see us!

    It’s Beginning!

    KIM RICHEY NEWSLETTER,  FEB. 2024

    Greetings from Nashville –

Two newsletters in one month??  What madness is this?  Well, I have more news.! My new album, “Every New Beginning,” and is coming out May 24th on Yep Roc Records. but, you can hear the first single “Floating On The Surface” now.   I wrote, recorded and produced this track with my very talented friend, Roger Nichols.  Roger engineered and played all the instruments (except percussion – that’s me!) and I sang all the parts.  We thought we were making a demo .  As it turned out, the band and I weren’t able to beat the demo of “Floating On The Surface” with a live recording so……this is the “demo”.  You know, that reminds me.  The same thing happened on a song I wrote with Radney Foster, “Nobody Wins”.  The track that ended being on his album was the “demo” – a #1 charting demo!

“Every New Beginning” is my first album of new music in 6 years (I know….) and I am really excited for you all to hear it!  You can pre-order my new album on Digital, CD and LP starting now.  LPs are available in Clear coke bottle Vinyl and a special Fan Pre-Order Exclusive – Translucent Orange Vinyl (250 limited edition).  A hand written thank you note from me is included in the Fan Pre-Order Exclusive LPs.  Here’s the link to listen to “Floating On The Surface” and pre-order “Every New Beginning”.  LINK

Thanks for listening and pre-ordering/pre-saving.  It helps me a lot!

    KIM RICHEY NEWSLETTER FEB. 2024

    Greetings from Nashville

Hey you all. I hope everyone is well. Were any of you at Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend in January? It was like nothing I have ever experienced. The atmosphere was kind, inclusive and super fun. The special gues this year was Annie Lenox. Annie Lenox!! That was when I first started crying – when I walked into rehearsal and there was Annie Lenox. Annie Lenox!! The talent at the festival was incredible. To name a few: Allison Russell, Brandi (duh), Sarah McLachlan, Sista Strings, Wendy and Lisa, the incredible house band led by the twins and more, more, more!

I played in front of 1,000s of people during the Titans of Americana segment with Brandi, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Brandy Clark. The four of us sat up on stage with our acoustic guitars and took turns playing songs and singing with each other. Truthfully, I didn’t know how we were going to go over on that huge stage but, the good will and enthusiasm from th4e audience was overwhelming. I mostly sat up there and cried from the emotion of it all when I wasn’t playing guitar or singing. I cannot thank those folks in the audience and Brandi enough. If you get a chance to go next year…..go! I’ve already been invited back. Also, check out Brandy Clark’s and Allison Russells’ latest albums. They are both brilliant.

Here are my upcoming dates and a link so you can listen to a cover I did of a beautiful Tom Waits song – “Ever Since I Put Your Picture In A Frame”. Dan Mitchell (too much talent for one guy) is playing piano and singing with me. Just click here!

    In like a lamb….

    Greetings from Ramsgate, Kent

I just looked out the window and March is definitely going out like a lion. It’s snowing!! Just last week it was in the 60’s here – that’s 16 and then some for my Celsius friends. I just finished a book by Rob Hunter – The Paradox Hotel. March reminds me of this parable that was included in the book.

A student went to his meditation teacher and said, “My meditation is horrible! I feel so distracted, or my legs ache, or I’m constantly falling asleep. It’s just horrible!”

“It will pass,” the teacher said matter-of-factly.

A week later, the student came back to his teacher. “My meditation is wonderful! I feel so aware, so peaceful, so alive! It’s just wonderful!”

“It will pass, “ the teacher replied matter-of-factly.

March in a nutshell! I’m going to remember this when things don’t seem to be going so well for me and also, when I get a little cocky during the good times.

The shows I was scheduled to play in the UK and Netherlands on my own and with Gretchen Peters were postponed. We are busy rescheduling them for August/Sept. It was a real disappointment to us all. We had been looking forward to playing for you for ages! I will post the new dates as soon as they are all organized.

  • Shut In and Sing – Live streaming online concert

  • Life in the Time of Corvid-19

    April 15, 2020

    Hey you all-

Well… it is a gorgeously sunny spring day here and the trees are in full bloom – white, purple, pink and yellow. You would never know that something as big and frightening as the Corona virus is taking place in the world right now. I have been doing a lot of reconnecting with friends and family and cooking up a storm. (note to self: google mumus). I like that part of shelter in place days.

We have had to cancel all of the Spring dates of course but, we are rescheduling as fast as we can. I will list the dates below. Tomorrow, March 27 is the official release date of A Long Way Back – the songs of Glimmer. It sure is a strange time to be releasing a record. There are so many important things going on right now that it almost seems frivolous but, I am really proud of this record. I am excited for you all to hear these songs from Glimmer on its 20th anniversary in their new stripped down versions. It is available now on CD, Download or traditional black vinyl.

I’ll be playing some online shows. I will keep you posted. Right now, I am scheduled to play Shut In And Sing on Stage It at 8:30 on May 1st. There are a lot of great things going on w/ this online concert series. Check it out: www.stageit.com/ShutInandSing

Until I see you next, I will leave you with one of my favorite recipes – The Life Changing Bread. It is an especially good bread recipe for now as everyone seems to be panic buying yeast and flour and this recipe is gluten free – sans flour.

Follow me on Instagram for more recipes and the occasional song. Also keep in touch. Got a good recipe to share or a story or tips for sheltering? Let me know.

    Take care of yourselves

    January 15, 2020
    Happy New Year, you all!

    Greetings!

Happy New Year, you all! I have some news and some new tour dates to tell you about. First off, Yep Roc will be releasing A Long Way Back – the Songs of Glimmer on regulation LP and CD March 27th. If you missed out on the limited, special edition version (it sold out in 4 days!) you can still grab the music here. The first single from the new album is Come Around. I will include a link so you can listen to it and preorder the LP or CD if you like. The LP will come with a download so on the off chance you haven’t purchased a new turn table or unearthed the old from of your attic yet, you can listen to the download:

A Long Way Back – the Songs of Glimmer

Again, thanks so much to all of you that come to shows and purchase my music. You’re the best and I couldn’t do what I do without you!

    Thanks
